Originator and systematizer of percussion studies in Bulgaria, Dr. Paliev is firmly established as a great percussion composer, active performer, clinician and well known educator throughout the world.

This second volume of a three volume set, serves as audition and concert material as well as a graduated system in which students can develop musicality and interaction with piano accompaniment.

All volumes come with a play along tape of the accompaniment or computer disk with midi file, if requested. The midi file having the advantage of variable speed, to increase as the student becomes more comfortable.

"Excursion" targets the medium level player who has mastered the basics (of volume I) and is ready for the next challenge. This collection begins with "Excursion", a composition which utilizes tuplets, arpeggios and various intervals. As the volume continues the player is exposed to increased tonal complexity and rhythmic diversity.

Traditional Bulgarian odd meter changes are handled delicately with accents on the subdivision of the meter (i.e. 3+2). The last work in the volume introduces a freely performed, unaccompanied cadenza after which the composition develops into a modern melodic and harmonic structure.
