Concerto Grosso by Antonio Vivaldi
Arranged by Errol Rackipov for Two Xylophones and Marimba Quartet

Level: IV

Price: $30.95

Vivaldi's "Concerto Grosso in a minor for two violins and string orchestra" (not to be confused with the "Concerto in a minor for violin and orchestra"), is a masterwork that until now, has not been shared with the percussion world.

Though string ensemble music lends itself successfully to marimba ensemble adaptation, Vivalidi's Concerto Grosso does so especially well. The arrangement has been constructed so that the entire mallet ensemble sounds coherent without trying to imitate the strings sonority. Appropriate "long" note durations have been emulated with rolls to create the same timber as originally intended.

The Concerto requires a medium level, two mallet technique and will perfectly lend to percussion ensembles who have strong mallet players.
